5 Great Glass Cabinets For Your Gaming Collection

While I’ve only recently begun to collect minis for use in my tabletop games, my lifetime indulgence in superhero paraphernalia has spawned a collection that is robust enough to be a pain to maintain. The downside to any collection on display is the accumulation of dust and the need to keep everything looking clean and presentable, especially when relying on regular bookshelves like I have been all my life. As my collection continues to grow, the thought has dawned on me that I should invest in a greater storage solution than a plastic box or a shelf. And so, when I discovered the new glass display cabinets from BoxKing Gaming, I started to weigh up my various options.

Aside from assorted HeroClix and Dungeons & Dragons miniatures, I have a substantial collection of figurines from the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection that are all beautifully rendered and painted. However, I’ve only recently put them back out on display after years of living in boxes under the bed wrapped in newspaper and bubble wrap. Like I said before though, keeping them dust free is a hassle and can be a nuisance of an expense too if I need to get decent polish and cleaning materials. So, a glass cabinet that keeps them all safely out of the way of dust and minimises the amount of monthly cleaning I need to do would be a welcome addition to the display area (that being my bedroom).

The great thing about the glass cabinets on offer form BoxKing Gaming is that they provide a variety of potential fixtures. The first two cabinets that caught my eye did so because of a feature I would never expect to find on a display cabinet: a set of wheels.

The Glass Display Cabinet comes in two varieties, one with four compartments, and one with eight compartments. Thankfully, the wheels feature a locking mechanism not unlike the kind you’d find on your average trolly, so even if the wheels seem an odd feature to you, you can lock them in place so that they are as sturdy as any regular stand or leg might be. The benefit of course is that you can move the display case around, though I wouldn’t advise doing that while it’s full. If you’re a daredevil though, and like to live life on the edge, you could wheel the display case over to the table for the duration of a game of dungeons & dragons or mutants & masterminds or whatever it may be to keep your minis close at hand and easy to swap on and off the table. Then when you’re done, you can wheel it all back to the corner where it’s safe. Then of course, there the more anxious among us who would never put so much as a teddy bear on wheels, and there’s options for us too.

If the eight compartments of the glass display cabinet above seemed just the ticket, but you’re not the type to gamble with the wobbles of standard motion, then this might be the better option for you. A 2-door glass display cabinet with four separate tiers without any dividing line. The benefit of the display shelves here is that they’re extra-wide compared to the others and so you can fit a whole swath of minis, figurines, or action figures on them without compromising their accessibility. The cabinet comes with sturdy grips for the feet so that it remains steady on any surface and affords the same level of protection from dust and other detritus materials to save you the hassle of cleaning your collection on an all-too-regular basis. Plus, is there anything quite like the feeling of swooshing open a pair of double doors to procure the instruments of death you plan to deploy at the table? I think not. Well, maybe if it was lit up somehow…

If ambience is your game, then the Lighted Glass Display Cabinet is likely to be more your speed. Much like the 2-door cabinet above, this display cabinet features a double door system, sturdy grips for the feet, and a solid glass structure that affords security for your collection. But this one also includes a battery-powered, remote-controlled PAIPAI light strip with customizable colours—perfect for setting the mood during game nights or highlighting your favourite collectibles. That extra bit of customisability can make all the difference at the table or in your dedicated display area, lending a vibe to your display unlike anything else around it. The last option for your glass display cabinet needs continues the lighting trend of the Lighted Glass Display Cabinet but scales it all down a little.

Available in both black and white, the RGB LED Glass Cabinet with 3 tiers offers all the ambient lighting potential of the Lighted Glass Cabinet while accounting for a potential lack of available space. We all have to tussle with the fact that sometimes, we just don’t have the room to really bring our collections and displays to the extent of our wildest dreams, but the ability to make the best of what you’ve got goes a long way. Each tier is its own drawer, opening up and locking into place so that you don’t need to stand there holding it while you take out your minis. In combination with the Lighted Glass Cabinet, it could serve to add a lot more depth to the ambient lighting of your display by mixing and matching various combinations with its twelve colour options.

Whatever your preference for glass display cabinets, whether you want them mobile, rooted to the spot, or lit up like a nerdy Christmas tree, BoxKing Gaming has the means to elevate your gaming collection to the lofty heights of royalty it deserves.
